We have 15 loyal, committed members in our adult choir. This group is very diverse and intergenerational, with our youngest members in their teens and our oldest in their 70s! Each Sunday, the choir leads us in worship with introits, hymns, anthems and special music. Choir members frequently use their talents to perform solos, duets and quartets, and church members occasionally perform instrumental numbers as well. Seasonally, the choir blesses us with Christmas Cantatas, Good Friday Tennebrae Services, Easter concerts and other special music, purposefully leading us through the weeks of Advent, Lent and Pentecost. Choir members faithfully attend weekly rehearsals and come prepared for every worship event due to their sincere and heartfelt desire to share their love for God through music.
As a pianist/vocalist, Mariah has spent her life in the arts. She completed her Bachelor of Music in voice at Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, after which she started a professional career in musical theatre with lead roles in numerous musicals and cabarets in Toronto and across western Canada.
Mariah eventually changed her focus to jazz piano studies. While she often worked as a solo artist, she was also a member of “Steeplechase,” a jazz quartet with an emphasis on vocal harmony. She has recently been performing with her own group, “The Mariah Picot Trio,” on piano/vocals, singing in English, French, Portuguese and Italian.
Mariah has also released CDs of original songs (including “Notes on the Bridge”) and has performed at the prestigious Massey Hall in Canada and at events along the Gulf coast including the Seaside Jazz Festival, Gulf Place Concert Series, and Concerts in the Park. Since moving to Dallas in 2007, she has performed as a solo artist and with her trio at the Unity Dallas Concert series and for other events at the Dallas Convention Center.
Mariah also teaches voice and piano and works as an accompanist at The Acting Studio in Grapevine and Frisco. Additionally, she has written a musical that is currently in development.
We are delighted and so very blessed to have such an accomplished and talented artist leading our music ministry!
